David Vincent Capallo, M.D.

capallopixDr. Capallo was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia and graduated with a B.S. degree in 1973. He then attended the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and received his M.D. degree in 1977. After completing medical school, Dr. Capallo began his residency training at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. He completed a one year internship in Internal Medicine from 1977-1978 and then completed a five year residency in General Surgery from 1978-1983. He then returned to the Medical College of Georgia where he completed a two year Cardiothoracic Surgery residency from 1983-1985. After completion of his training, Dr Capallo returned to Savannah, Georgia, where he has been in private practice since 1985. His practice includes Cardiac Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, and Vascular Surgery.

Dr. Capallo, is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and has completed recertification by both Boards. He holds membership in many professional organizations including the American Medical Association, Georgia Medical Society, Medical Association of Georgia, Southern Medical Association, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and Southern Thoracic Surgical Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.

Dr. Capallo is on the Active Staff of St. Joseph's Hospital, Candler Hospital, and Memorial Medical Center in Savannah. He is past chairman of the department of Surgery at St. Josephs Hospital. He is also on the active staff at Hilton Head Medical Center in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Dr. Capallo is also on the consulting staff at Meadows Regional in Vidalia, Georgia and consulting staff at Beaufort Memorial Hospital in Beaufort, South Carolina.

He is married to Gayle Farrar Capallo and they have two children, Dave and Blair.

B. Marcus Bailey, M.D.

Bailey photo Dr. Bailey was born in Savannah, Georgia. He attended Savannah County Day School. Dr. Bailey graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University in 1994. He began medical school the same year at the Medical College of Virginia where he obtained his MD in 1998. He then began his general surgery training at East Carolina University which included research and publications in minimally invasive and robotic approaches to cardiac surgery. After six intensive years of general surgery residency, Dr. Bailey continued his training in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of California Los Angeles.

In July 2006, upon successful completion of his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship, Dr. Bailey returned to Savannah to join Dr. Capallo in private practice. His practice includes cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery. His interests and specialties include minimally-invasive cardiothoracic techniques, endovascular repairs, and the treatment of lung cancer.

Dr. Bailey is an active member of the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion at St. Joseph’s/Candler. He is on staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Candler Hospital and Memorial Health Medical Center in Savannah. He is also an active staff member at Hilton Head Medical Center in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

He is married to Kate Bailey and they have a basset hound, Hollywood.
