When a pacemaker needs to be changed, removal of the old leads can often be difficult.  In the past, the old leads were often left in place.  However, this can result in complications.  Now there is new technology that uses laser energy to ablate the scar tissue holding the leads in place.  This new technology has an average cardiac lead removal time of 4 minutes and has reduced complications to 1.0%.  If you have questions about pacemaker or ICD lead removal, please call our office.
